LCD or Plasma ? that is the question comes to mind when you think of buying a new Flat panel television. You try to find the answers by end only learning about the technology used and left to decide to compare and choose your self based on a long article. This fact sheet gives you top ten reasons you want to buy a LCD Television . This is no indication that plasma technology is not good or we have a bias in favor of LCD but simply the reasons which may suite your viewing requirement and conditions at home . 1.More Color richness in a room with lots of light.
If you have a living room where you want to sit back , read magazines , newspapers and watch TV , LCD may be you choice as LCD gives more Color richness a room with lots of light.
2.Contrast is comparable to Plasma :
The contrast ratios indicate the ratio between white and black level of TV, the higher the ration the better. Though plasma TVS typically have a higher contrast ratios , you can find LCD TVs with comparable contrast ratios . Contrast is one of the many factor for picture quality and you should not make a purchase just because of higher contrast ration of a TV .
( Contrast is a ration between maximum and minimum brightness , if a LCD has a maximum brightness of 800 cd/m2 and minimum brightness of 2 cd/m2 the contrast ration would be 800/2 or 400:1 )
3.Picture Quality and resolution is better :
LCDs TV has more picture producing elements per same screen size than plasma TV and they provide more resolution for the same size of plasma both these factors leads to better picture quality and high resolution picture .
4. Viewing angle :
LCD TV is viewed best when it is in the center and everyone will look the TV directly . Although LCD Tvs provide viewing angles of up to 130 degrees yet you may think of the situation if you have to watch TV at an angle greater than 130 degree on a daily basis.
5. LCD consumes less power :
LCD TVs use less power than plasma TVs of the same size so over the period of time watching LCD TV will cost less as compared to Plasma Television and save you some money on electricity bill!
6. Less and Replaceable Wear and tear
LCD has backlight florescent bulb which can fade over period of few years . The good news is that this is the only element susceptible in LCD to wear and tear and it can be replaced in most of the new LCD TVs. and a new bulb can give the TV a new bright life. This is not the case for plasma where display coating fades and can’t be replaced .
7. LCD is preferred as Computer monitor
LCDs are preferred in computer monitor for displaying static images like text , spread sheets or just images . If you are planning to use your TV as monitor for your laptop to watch movies or work, LCD will provide you better quality than Plasma TV. Plasma may give you somewhat hazy letters and images .
8. No Burn in problems :
Image burnout happens when a static image remains on the screen for a very long time and have a faded impression of the image left on the screen forever . LCDs use a different technology than plasma and they do nor suffer from image burn in problem as in Plasma TVs.
9. Improved Response time :
Response time matters most when you are watching a high speed action with every thing moving at very fast pace such as car racing. TVs with good response time will be able to display the action as it happens where as in high response time TVs picture may appear to be lagging . Generally response time of an LCD TV is less than that of response time of plasma TV but latest improve ments in the technology has made it possible to provide a very good response time for LCDs as well. Sharp has quoted a 6ms Response Time for some of its model .
10. No Altitude related problems :
LCD will be your choice if you live or may move to live at altitude of 6500 feet or above (you never know in the current job situation ) . Plasma TVs at this altitude emits a buzzing sound like a neon sign.
